Less than 12 hours after Vivek Ramaswamy announced his highly anticipated bid for Ohio governor, Donald Trump officially endorsed the former biotech entrepreneur and Republican presidential candidate in a Truth Social post.
Trump’s Full Endorsement of Ramaswamy
“VIVEK RAMASWAMY is running for Governor of the Great State of Ohio. I know him well, competed against him, and he is something SPECIAL,” Trump wrote. “He’s Young, Strong, and Smart! Vivek is also a very good person, who truly loves our Country. He will be a GREAT Governor of Ohio, will never let you down, and has my COMPLETE AND TOTAL ENDORSEMENT!”
With Trump’s backing, Ramaswamy is now positioned as the frontrunner in the Republican primary, where he already held a lead over Ohio Attorney General Dave Yost, who entered the race last month.
Ramaswamy’s Vision for Ohio
The 39-year-old businessman officially launched his campaign in Cincinnati, vowing to restore “conviction” in Ohio. His campaign agenda includes aggressive deregulation, promoting capitalism and meritocracy, and reducing government overreach.
“We will lead Ohio to be the top state in the country, where we embrace capitalism and meritocracy instead of apologizing for it,’’ Ramaswamy declared during his announcement speech. “We will take a hatchet to red tape, over-regulation, and bureaucracy.”
His campaign is set to tour Columbus, Toledo, and Cleveland over the coming days, rallying support across the state.
Ohio’s Political Landscape and Ramaswamy’s Rising Influence
Governor Mike DeWine, who has served two terms, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election. While DeWine, a more establishment Republican, has not signaled whether he will support Ramaswamy, Trump’s endorsement is expected to solidify him as the GOP favorite.
Ramaswamy, who emerged as a rising conservative star during the 2024 Republican primaries, gained national attention for championing Trump’s America First policies before ultimately endorsing him. Following his presidential run, he co-founded the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) initiative alongside Elon Musk, before stepping away to focus on his gubernatorial campaign.
His bid has already secured major endorsements from Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose and State Treasurer Robert Sprague, both of whom were once considered potential contenders.
Ohio Republicans Poised to Hold the Governorship
With Ohio trending red in recent elections, the GOP primary winner is likely to win the general election. Governor DeWine won re-election by 25 percentage points in 2022, while Trump carried Ohio by 11 points in the last presidential election.
With Trump’s full support and a strong conservative platform, Vivek Ramaswamy is now in a prime position to become Ohio’s next governor.
